If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?
What I’d Do If I Didn’t Need to Sleep
Imagine having an extra eight hours every day, free from the pull of sleep. What would you do with all that extra time? For me, it’d be a chance to dive into everything I love (and all the things I never seem to have time for) without the usual rush or interruptions.
Creativity After Midnight
Late nights are so quiet, so calm—perfect for getting creative. I’d use that time to sketch out ideas, write for Moss and Fog or Whole Earth Home, and just let my imagination run wild. No distractions, no emails—just me, my thoughts, and a world of possibilities.

Stargazing and Wonder
I’d spend more time outside at night, gazing at the stars. Maybe even learn a little astrophotography to capture those tiny, sparkling pieces of the universe. There’s something magical about being under the night sky—it makes everything else feel small in the best way.
Learning Something New
With extra time, I’d finally pick up some new skills. Maybe try woodworking or learn a new language. It’d be fun to dive into something totally different and just enjoy the process of figuring it out.
Nighttime Adventures
I’d explore the world when it’s quiet and still—night hikes through the woods or desert, soaking in the sounds and sights of the nocturnal world. It’s a side of nature that most of us rarely see, but it’s just as alive and beautiful.

Endless Books
My reading list is embarrassingly long, but with all this time, I’d start chipping away at it. Fiction, design books, sustainability ideas—anything that sparks curiosity or teaches me something new. Maybe even start a little late-night book club for fellow insomniacs.
Quiet Time for Family
While my family slept, I’d have a chance to plan fun surprises for them or reflect on our life together. It’d make our time awake together even sweeter, knowing I’d already had my “me time.”
Living Fully
Not needing sleep wouldn’t just mean working more—it’d be about soaking up all the moments I miss in the chaos of daily life. I’d find the balance between being productive and just enjoying the quiet, magical hours that most of us sleep through.
If you didn’t need to sleep, how would you spend your time?
